Vinyl Siding Institute ensures quality installation on siteThe Jimmy Carter Work Project is not just about building houses quickly; it’s also about building them well. On Tuesday, certified instructors and installers from the Vinyl Siding Institute, the trade association for manufacturers of vinyl siding and suppliers of raw materials, equipment and services to the vinyl siding industry, began the morning with a lesson to volunteers about how to install vinyl siding correctly.
These VSI-certified volunteers are on site at both host cities to lend their expertise to JCWP. Dave Bergovsky, a VSI-certified instructor, says, “Our first goal is to train people in installation. Our second goal is to inspect houses to ensure that the vinyl siding is installed correctly. And our final goal is to help any houses that fall behind.” In addition, VSI has provided the vinyl siding for all of the houses built in Benton Harbor and Detroit during JCWP. Bergovsky is excited that vinyl siding companies are collaborating to help eliminate substandard housing. He comments, “As an industry, we come together to build for Habitat.” With the help of VSI donations and volunteers, JCWP homeowners will have homes of their own, built with care and attention to quality.
