JCWP HOMEOWNERS:NANCY ROSAS Nancy Rosas looks forward to never having to move again. "I want my kids to be able to come back one day and say, 'we grew up here and my mom still lives here,'" she says. A mother of three children, ages 3, 4 and 16, Rosas' vision for the future stands in contrast to her own childhood. "When we were growing up we moved from place to place to place," she says, "and then when my parents died we were all separated and everybody went their different ways. It wasn't a good experience and I don't want my kids to have to go through that." Rosas also hopes for the stability that comes with a close-knit community, something she has witnessed often this week when volunteers and homeowners offered to lend a hand when other teams' houses fell behind schedule. "If you've got good-hearted neighbors and people who are willing to take time out to help you... I don't care where you're at, in any community, this is what they need, where everybody else in the community will watch out for one another. Everybody helping everybody, that's the way it should be." When the house is finished at the end of the week, says Rosas, her children will have rooms of their own--and a safe community to live in. "I want my kids to know that it's OK to talk to people. It's OK to go outside, you don't have to be afraid anymore." |
