Grant Officer (SHOP Department)

Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is recruiting for a detail-oriented and deadline-driven professional to serve as a Grant Officer for the Self-help Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP) grants team. This position is responsible for 30 - 40 affiliates and their related accounts and reports to the SHOP Grants Supervisor. The SHOP Grant program transfers approximately $8-10 million annually to Habitat affiliates to assist with land acquisition and infrastructure development. This position is based at our operational headquarters in Americus, GA and requires 10-20% travel.
Key responsibilities include:
*Monitor affiliate compliance with specified programmatic and federal benchmarks and requirements.
*Review affiliate monthly progress reports and assist affiliates with creating an action plan to resolve challenges.
*Monitor affiliates' compliance with National Environmental Policy Act regulations pertaining to the SHOP grant.
*Prepare SHOP award packets to affiliates, including ascertaining contractual needs, issuing contracts and loan documents, and reviewing them for accuracy.
*Review and process award amendments and bi-weekly draw requests.
*Participate in the review and of the annual affiliate SHOP survey and annual affiliate applications.
*Maintain electronic files in MS ACCESS database and paper files according to federal OMB A-133 audit standards.
*Assist in the coordination and planning of the annual SHOP conference, participate in distance learning and on-site continuing education for affiliates.
ABOUT SHOP: Congress established the Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program, or SHOP, in the Housing Opportunity Program Extension Act of 1996, Section 11. The program’s purpose is to assist nonprofit organizations with the two costliest aspects of affordable housing development: acquiring land and making infrastructure improvements. SHOP funds assist Habitat affiliates with the costs needed for land acquisition and infrastructure improvements, such as utility connections, streets, sidewalks, curbs, impact fees and site preparation. They do not pay for any costs related to house construction or rehabilitation.
*Bachelor’s degree required; grants management or compliance certification preferred.
*2-3 years of related accounting, finance or grants experience.
*Experience with government grants or contracts, including an understanding of the A-133 audit standard preferred.
*Ability to implement complex federal regulations such as the National Environmental Policy Act.
*Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, including ACCESS database experience.
*Ability to work collaboratively and professionally to manage affiliate accounts effectively.
*Excellent written and oral communication skills for daily interaction with affiliates, HFHI staff, members of the public.
*Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 20%.
