CUDAD DE GUATEMALA, Guatemala, November 9, 2007.-
Habitat Our Towns of Lake Norman (Our Towns) has supported Habitat Guatemala since 1988 and by the end of 2007 will have tithed over 1 million dollars. Our Towns has been following up on their tithe support in conjunction with Habitat Guatemala since the beginning and the partnership has meant that by Christmas 2007 more than 450 Guatemalan families will be celebrating in their homes.

Since 2003 the affiliate from Davidson North Carolina has come 9 times to build with Guatemalan families in need and to see the impact of their support seen in the smiling faces of benefiting partners and their children.

In February 2007 on the last night of the eighth visit of the affiliate, Terry Laney the Executive Director invited Habitat Guatemala to share an experience of construction of a Habitat home for a family in need in the United States, with their brothers at Our Towns.

The Guatemala’s volunteers team

The event took place from the 21st to the 26th of October and strengthened a great friendship through the building of the home of Jania Kirduliene, who left her Native Lithuania to look for a better life in North Carolina. The build included volunteers and employees of Our Towns with 6 members of Habitat Guatemala. The Guatemala team consisted of the President of the Board Victor Martinez, the Vice President of the Board Estuardo Tabush, the Executive Director Luis Samayoa, the Director of Operations Hender Gaitan , the Coordinator of International Donor Relations Richard Koenig and Santos Rodas de Leon an Habitat home Owner form Guatemala who travelled to help make another family in need’s dream a reality.

For every house built by the affiliate of Our Towns, three houses are funded in Guatemala.
