Wisin & Yandel: A “Revolution” of social awareness

Wisin & Yandel, leaders of the digital era with 10 million music downloads and leading sales in the U.S. and Latin America, donate US$25,000 to Habitat for Humanity and announce an unprecedented program to donate a portion of their U.S. tour sales to benefit the organization.
MIAMI, Florida - Wisin & Yandel were recognized today with an array of awards for their enormous worldwide success in digital downloads as well as the record-breaking sales success of their most recent album “La Revolution” (The Revolution) during a press conference at the Gaansevort Hotel in Miami Beach which was broadcast live throughout all of the duo’s websites. Additionally, the duo took the opportunity to announce an unprecedented program to benefit Habitat for Humanity by donating a portion of moneys made during their upcoming U.S. tour to build homes for low-income families. They demonstrated their commitment to the cause by donating US$25,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Miami.
During the conference, Jesús Lopez, Chairman/CEO of Universal Music Latin Entertainment and Walter Kolm, President of Universal Music Latino and Machete Music presented Wisin & Yandel with five plaques for having reached more than 10 million digital downloads worldwide, as well as double platinum certification in the United States and Puerto Rico and gold records in Mexico, Venezuela and the Andean Region (Colombia, Peru, Ecuador) for “La Revolución”.
“Because of their Internet exposure, Wisin & Yandel have become world-renown, transcending the reggaeton and urban music genres. They have achieved universal fame and acceptance amongst young people everywhere, overcoming barriers of language, genre and nationality.” said López.
Wisin & Yandel have received more than 10 million digital music downloads, they have acquired more than 160 million “hits” on YouTube; they are the #1 Latin Artist on MySpace worldwide and the #1 Latin Artist on Facebook (with more than one million fans).
“Every day our industry is governed more and more by the exposure, innovation and sales of the digital world. Wisin & Yandel are consistently in the cutting edge of the Latin music world and they have become true representatives of this new digital era,” Kolm said.
The duo asked fans throughout all of their websites to submit questions they would answer live from the press conference, once again showing their commitment to their loyal fans.
Further, Wisin y Yandel announced their commitment to a program benefiting Habitat for Humanity and presented them with US$25,000, which, they expressed, is only the beginning of an unprecedented partnership with the organization in which they will donate monies garnered during their upcoming US tour.
Wisin y Yandel and La Revolución US Tour will benefit Habitat for Humanity’s home building efforts in multiple ways. Wisin y Yandel will donate US$1 to the organization for each ticket sold during the tour. In addition, funds raised from VIP ticket auctions and a special merchandise item to be sold at the shows will be designated to fund Habitat for Humanity in each tour city. The duo will also invite some future Habitat homeowners to attend the shows and will join families building their homes, throughout the tour.
