ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay (December 13, 2011)
– On December 2, Habitat for Humanity Paraguay said “adios” to a visiting “Build Louder” team. Through the Build Louder program, volunteers learn about the reality of low-income families and help strengthen national and international public policies.

During their eight day stay the volunteers, led by José Quiñonez of Habitat’s Government Relations and Advocacy office, visited several communities of extreme poverty. In addition, they conducted interviews with representatives of the Intersectorial Bureau of Housing and Habitat (Mesa Intersectorial del Hábitat y la Vivienda), civil society organizations and members of USAID, the European Union and the Inter-American Development Bank. The volunteers also had the opportunity to interview with the National Secretary of Housing and Habitat, as well as the national television program, “Siglo a Siglo” and local newspapers “Diario ABC” and “Diario Última Hora”.

“We believe that we cannot resolve the tremendous problem of housing need through construction alone. We need to influence the [root] causes. We say that we “build louder”, because we are a group that travels in order to learn about the situation of social habitat, about housing distribution and about land tenure issues,” said Quiñonez.
