Habitat for Humanity Paraguay supports families affected by tornado
Habitat for Humanity Paraguay mobilizes staff and channels funds towards emergency response efforts.
ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay (September 19, 2012) – Hundreds of Paraguayan families have suffered the effects of a tornado that swept through the country on the evening of September 18, primarily affecting the areas of Mariano Roque Alonso in the Central Department, and the Ñeembucú region in the south.
Various government and humanitarian organizations are mobilizing to attend to the nearly 2,500 affected households, according to SEN reports. Habitat for Humanity Paraguay is also working to provide support to the families of victims who were killed as a result of the disaster.
The Habitat for Humanity Paraguay national office, which has worked in the country since 1998, is joining forces with community leaders and municipal representatives in the affected zones to establish priorities and define collaborative actions.
According to the organization’s mission to serve families in emergency situations, Habitat for Humanity Paraguay invites people and organizations from within and outside the country who wish to help to donate via the Habitat Paraguay’s website at www.habitat.org.py.
The entirety of these donations will be channeled to the National Emergency Secretary (SEN) for the provision of emergency supplies or temporary or permanent shelter such as tarps, mattresses, tools, etc. SEN is the governmental institution that coordinates emergency response activities.
Habitat for Humanity Paraguay has a secure online donation system at www.habitat.org.py, and donations of US $10 minimum can be made using any major credit card.
