Welcome to BRACED – A new quarterly publication from Habitat for Humanity International
BRACED—Building Readiness And Capacities for Emerging Disasters—explores issues related to Habitat for Humanity’s Latin American and Caribbean disaster response program. Our aim is to not only repair damage, but to help prevent it in the first place. To that end, BRACED is working hard to strap roofs down, weatherize homes, construct strong rooms, build safe facilities and train communities – all to prepare families to resist disasters.
Current issue: Volume 3, number 1
This issue showcases PASSA, the Participatory Approach to Safe Shelter Awareness, which BRACED is using to empower communities as they assess their disaster preparedness. Also highlighted is the recent earthquake in Mexico and the coordination of disaster risk reduction and response in the Americas through the Regional Network for Risk, Emergency and Disasters in Latin America and the Caribbean, or REDLAC.
Volume 1, number 2
This issue of BRACED showcases efforts of identifying and providing various paths to helping vulnerable families, focusing in our work in on Nicaragua and Trinidad & Tobago. Read more about “Pathways to Permanence” in our next issue.
Volume 1, number 1
This issue explores the innovative approaches Habitat for Humanity is taking in responding to the natural disasters in Jamaica, Guatemala and Chile, and explains how you can get involved.
