Habitat Youth Leadership Conference registration now open!
Register NOW for the Youth Leadership Conference & Young Leaders Summit, to be held Nov. 7-9 in Charlotte, N.C.

This year’s conference will feature the first Young Leaders Summit, as HFHI wants to inspire service beyond collegiate years. This annual conference is open to all youth, affiliate staff and volunteers interested in engaging Millennials in Habitat’s efforts to eliminate poverty housing.

Conference information — including registration costs, scholarship opportunities and workshop requests for proposals — is available at habitat.org/ylc. Early-bird registration rates are available through Sept. 20.

High school students tackle builds, community service
Now through August, more than 80 high school students ages 16-18 will participate in our Learn and Build Experience trips. The 10- day trips give students a hands-on educational experience in Habitat’s mission of creating a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Follow this summer’s participants with #LBE2014 on Twitter and in our Facebook group.

State Farm matching grants now available
Apply before October for one of our three State Farm and Habitat grants for your team. State Farm has partnered with Habitat to offer matching grants for Youth United and campus chapters, as well as a disaster-services grant for student groups and affiliates. Grants can go toward helping your group complete a new construction or neighborhood revitalization project.

All participating groups or affiliates must be in good standing with Habitat Youth Programs to be eligible. Apply today!

Other ways to get involved

Take Action: Tell the United Nations that housing is a global priority
Take a few minutes and sign your name to our petition asking Elizabeth Cousens, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, to make global housing a priority.

If you want governments around the world to prioritize housing, what better way than to put it on the global agenda? We’re happy to see that housing was included in the first agenda draft, but now it’s crunch time! The next draft of the agenda is expected in mid-July, so add your name to both petitions and spread the word TODAY!

Habitat World Photo Contest ends June 30
The 2014 Habitat World Photo Contest is now open, and this year we’ve made it even easier for you to enter. Just follow @habitatforhumanity on Instagram and post your best Habitat-themed photos, with the hashtag #HabitatPhotoContest. One of your volunteers could win a free trip to build at the 2014 Carter Work Project in Dallas-Fort Worth!

Spend an AmeriCorps service year in Atlanta or Washington, D.C.
Become an AmeriCorps VISTA with the Volunteer Mobilization and Innovation department right in the Atlanta, Georgia or Washington, D.C. office. This VISTA will focus on how to best engage our Generation X and Millennial volunteers across the country. The VISTA will develop tools, resources and partnerships on the ground to develop the next generation of affordable housing activists. For more information, email [email protected]. Visit habitat.org/americorps for information on National Service.
