Register now for Act! Speak! Build! Week

Join your peers in raising your collective voice about affordable housing needs. In 2015, Act! Speak! Build! Week will be held April 12-18. Visit Habitat.org to register now. ASBW is your chance to join forces with Habitat volunteers from across the United States. We encourage young people to engage elected officials and policymakers in their communities.

Collegiate Challenge summer break now open

Collegiate Challenge is Habitat for Humanity International’s year-round student alternative break program. Join your peers this summer and have fun serving others. Trip dates run through Sept. 5.

Teams must have five members, and participants must be at least age 16 to build. Don’t forget to read our resources and forms page, which includes waivers and toolkits to answer most of your team’s questions. Email [email protected] with any questions.

Habitat Store now offers team colors

Show your school spirit and Habitat pride at once. Campus chapters can now order items from the Habitat store in school colors. Not part of a chapter? No worries, new Habitat merchandise is now available to the public. Visit thehabitatstore.org to shop and get complete details.

Other ways to get involved

Nominate a star volunteer for a $10,000 scholarship

Student volunteers between ages 6 and 18 can be nominated for the Kohl’s Care Scholarship program. Winners will be chosen based on the benefits and outcomes of volunteer service. Awards range from $50 local awards to a $10,000 national winner, with a $1,000 donation from Kohl’s to a nonprofit of the student’s choice. Visit kohls.scholarshipamerica.org for complete details.

Advocate for increased access to credit and additional homeownership opportunities

Increasing access to credit for potential homeowners creates benefits for the entire economy.
Ensure that everyone has access to quality housing so that everyone wins; advocate for increased access to credit today. Tell your elected officials that:

  • Expanding homeownership opportunities builds a stronger economy for everyone.
  • Robust housing markets mean higher property values and local tax revenues, more job opportunities and healthier communities.
  • The success of the Habitat ownership model depends not only on the ability of our partner families to repay their mortgages, but also on ongoing demand for homeownership in their neighborhoods. Our partner families tend to live in areas with a large percentage of lower-income and first-time homeowners. As homeownership becomes a reality for some, it becomes more appealing for others.
