2012 GVYLC pre-conference sessions -- Habitat for Humanity Int'l 1

2012 GVYLC pre-conference sessions

This year we are offering two pre-conference intensive sessions.
Sessions are $20 each and should be included in your registration payment.

Session topics:

  • Youth in Neighborhood Revitalization: What does it take to revitalize a neighborhood for good? A home for one family is only part of the equation. How do we work with a community to create a great neighborhood with safe, decent and affordable housing for the long term? In this session you’ll experience basic community development principles and practices and identify ways to advocate for and get involved with Habitat’s Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative. Alyssa Lasseter, NRI program manager, will lead this session.
  • Advocacy in action: Participants will learn the importance of engaging in an ongoing conversation with the people who make the decisions that can expand or limit what affiliates can do locally. This workshop will offer tips, techniques and opportunities for getting a seat at the table where these housing decisions are made and making sure that Habitat’s views are represented. In addition, participants will learn how to conduct media advocacy in order to advance Habitat for Humanity International’s legislative issues. There will be opportunities to practice among the participants. Habitat’s director of advocacy capacity build, Jose Quinonez, will lead.
