July 2012 RV-CARE-A VANNER UPDATE
Habitat for Humanity's Global Village volunteer program

Breaking News!

I am pleased to announce that the RV Care-A-Vanner Program has received a $30,000 grant from Larsen Manufacturing. This money will be used to fund our first Disaster Response Training Course and to support the RV CAV desk, supplying us with more laptops. This grant will also allow us to attend some RV Rallies in search of new members and to attend next years Affiliate Conference to recruit new affiliates.

This is a wonderful development for the program, but I need all CAV to help support our mission. I would like to challenge the RV CAV to match this grant through our own donations to our program. Please make a donation.

Disaster Response

I am currently in communication with three disaster zones:

  • Henryville, IN where tornados devastated several small communities in March.
  • Morehead Area HFH in Northern Kentucky, hit by the same tornado outbreak that affected Henryville.
  • Tuscaloosa is starting their rebuild after a devastating tornado two years ago.

A CAV Team Who Went Above and Beyond

I would just like to say thanks to the Willow River, MN build team. They were building when the heavy rains hit northeastern MN, dropping 12 inches of rain in 24 hours.

Camped along a river bank, they were forced to seek higher ground twice with their rigs finally landing in a high school parking lot surrounded by water. Instead of taking the day off, they filled sand bags.

They were back to work building the next day. Thanks to the entire team for representing the CAV so well and thanks to Lowell and Gwen Larson for their leadership in an emergency.
