Serving those who serve

A U.S. Navy veteran serving in the Reserves, Byron Rodriguez now owns an 1,100-square-foot condominium that he rehabbed in partnership with Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys. As part of its work in the community of Chatsworth, Calif., the affiliate counts service to veterans like Rodriguez, who works at the Chatsworth Vet Center helping veterans adjust to civilian life.

Santa Clarita has one of the highest concentrations of veterans in the U.S. Habitat works with community partners to create access to a complete array of programs and services. In addition to the financial planning, budgeting, gardening and nutrition classes required for new Habitat homeowners, Rodriguez also participated in an art program designed to help participants deal with trauma.
