Rey Ramsey Elected Vice-Chair Of International Board

Americus, Ga. - November 9, 2001 - Rey Ramsey has been elected vice-chair of the all-volunteer board of directors of Habitat for Humanity International, the world’s largest nonprofit home building organization. Ramsey is the CEO of One Economy Corporation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to maximize the potential of technology to help low-income individuals build assets and raise their standard of living. He was chosen from more than two-dozen board members who give of their time to oversee the housing ministry’s mission in the United States and throughout the world.

“Rey Ramsey has been serving God by helping build homes and hope for many years,” said Millard Fuller, founder and president of Habitat for Humanity International. “As vice-chairman of our International Board of Directors, he will lead this ministry toward the total elimination of poverty housing worldwide.”

Ramsey has been involved in Habitat’s campaign to end poverty housing since 1986 and has served on HFHI’s board since 1998. Prior to Ramsey’s election to HFHI board, he served as a volunteer attorney for the Habitat for Humanity affiliate in Portland, Ore. Ramsey also served as president and chief operating officer of The Enterprise Foundation. Ramsey served in the cabinets of two Oregon governors as the Director of Department of Housing and Community Services. Ramsey serves on many boards, including American Rivers and the Advisory Board of the Brookings Institution Center on Urban and Metropolitan Policy.

“Habitat for Humanity is a special organization that touches the lives of people in need around the world,” Ramsey said. “I am pleased to be able to serve and do my part to help fulfill the vision and mission of this extraordinary organization.”

Ramsey will serve a two-year term as vice-chairman. Members of the HFHI board receive no compensation for their voluntary service.
