Waste Management gives holiday present to Habitat for Humanity –dompany donation supports Habitat’s Cars for HomesTM program

LOS ANGELES (Dec. 29, 2004) – Habitat for Humanity announced today that it is expanding the marketing of its Cars for HomesTM program in major cities throughout the western United States, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, Reno, Phoenix and Honolulu. A $50,000 donation from Waste Management is providing for expansion of the program.

The Cars for HomesTM program accepts donated cars, boats, RVs and other vehicles to generate funds that are used to help build homes in partnership with low-income families. All vehicle donors receive an acknowledgement letter that they may use for tax purposes if they itemize deductions.

“Cars for HomesTM provides a great opportunity to help families that are living in substandard conditions and need a hand up – not a hand out. This generous contribution by Waste Management allows us to greatly expand our marketing efforts during the holiday season,“ said Barry Kurland, general manager of Habitat for Humanity’s Cars for HomesTM program.

Duane Woods, senior vice president for the Western Group of Waste Management, arranged for the special contribution. Woods said, “What better way to celebrate the spirit of the holidays than to encourage people to ‘recycle’ their used vehicles into safe and affordable housing for deserving families. All of us at Waste Management look forward to working closely with Habitat to help promote this important program to our two million customers in the West.”

Interested vehicle donors can visit www.carsforhomes.org or call 1 (877) 277-HFHI (4344).
