Habitat for Humanity announces five-year partnership with Archstone-Smith, among nation’s largest apartment companies
AMERICUS, Ga. (Aug. 29, 2005) – Habitat for Humanity announced today that it has signed a new five-year national partnership with Archstone-Smith, one of the nation’s largest owners, operators and developers of apartment communities.
Archstone-Smith, which has been a national partnership with Habitat International since 1999, works through the global organization with Habitat affiliates in many of the communities it serves.
“Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity is a natural extension of what we do best – provide quality homes to families across the country,” said R. Scot Sellers, Archstone-Smith’s chair and chief executive officer. “We are extremely proud of the 34 homes our associates have helped build in cities where we operate over the last six years, and we look forward to our ongoing partnership.”
Under the partnership, Archstone-Smith, its associates and its business partners will contribute $1 million over five years to Habitat for Humanity International. Funds from that gift will be shared with local Habitat affiliates for two-day volunteer builds in Washington, D.C.; northern Virginia; San Diego; Los Angeles; San Francisco; Seattle; Denver; southeast Florida; Atlanta and Boston.
“Our partnership with Archstone-Smith has already provided life-changing opportunities for many families,” said Paul Leonard, chief executive officer of Habitat for Humanity International. “This enhanced program means that even more families will achieve the benefits of homeownership – economic opportunity, educational opportunity, greater involvement in community, and safe, simple, decent place to live.”
Archstone-Smith is one of the most respected apartment companies in America. An S&P 500 company, Archstone-Smith was recognized as one of America's Most Admired Companies for 2004 by Fortune Magazine and ranks 991 on the Forbes 2000 List, the magazine's comprehensive ranking of the world's largest companies, for 2005. The company has been a national partner with Habitat for Humanity since 1999. To find out more, visit archstonesmith.com.
