Tennis stars ‘brush up’ skills for Habitat

Tennis stars swap racquets for paintbrushes to benefit Habitat for Humanity

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 2) – Maria Sharapova, Amelie Mauresmo, Nadia Petrova and 14 other tennis stars have taken a swing for Habitat for Humanity.

These stars have painted the unique masterpiece “Room with a View” to benefit Habitat for Humanity. This star-signed and colorful 6.8 feet wide x 6.2 feet high canvas will be up for bids at the prestigious Championships in Los Angeles, Nov. 8-13 at the Staples Center. All proceeds from the painting go to Habitat for Humanity.

Whirlpool, the largest global partner of Habitat for Humanity, is the Premier Sponsor of the Women’s Professional Tennis Tour, and arranged the painting to benefit the international housing non-profit organization.

“Taking part in the Whirlpool Player’s Painting has been a really great experience – and a fun way to relax after playing tennis! It’s even better knowing that all the money raised from auctioning the painting will go to Habitat for Humanity,” said Maria Sharapova.

Whirlpool has partnered with Habitat in many ways since 1999. Whirlpool donates a range and refrigerator to every Habitat home in North America and in Europe, supports every home with product or cash. Every year, thousands of Whirlpool employees donate their time to support Habitat. Whirlpool’s sponsorship of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour in Europe, introduced Habitat to women’s professional tennis.

At the championships, Habitat for Humanity will highlight its initiative “Operation Home Delivery,” a three-phase response to help provide assistance and rebuilding opportunities in New Orleans and elsewhere along the Gulf Coast in the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
