Lowe’s, Habitat bring holiday comfort to hurricane victims
‘Homes for the Holidays’ customer donation program helps rebuild homes and lives

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (Nov. 14, 2005) – This holiday season, Lowe’s and its customers are helping a number of families rebuild their lives after the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita through the home improvement retailer’s nationwide “Homes for the Holidays” donation program.

From Nov. 14 to Dec. 12, Lowe’s customers can make a donation to Habitat for Humanity International at any Lowe’s store. The donations will help rebuild homes for a number of families who lost their homes or were displaced by the hurricanes on the Gulf Coast.

“Enjoying the comforts of home this holiday season, we are reminded that we can each do our part to help those who lost their homes on the Gulf Coast,” said Larry D. Stone, chair of the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. “We invite our customers to donate any amount they can to ‘Homes for the Holidays.’ Each gift will provide the much-needed funds to help Habitat for Humanity build homes with families in need.”

Americans seem to agree that giving to such a cause makes sense around holiday time. In a recent survey commissioned by Lowe’s, one-third (33 percent) of U.S. adults said that if given the opportunity to help hurricane victims, they would contribute to victims’ long-term needs by donating time or money to Habitat for Humanity or similar organizations.

Lowe’s has long supported Habitat for Humanity’s efforts to build simple, decent, affordable homes with families in need. As national underwriter of Habitat’s Women Build program, Lowe’s provides both financial support and training to women volunteers, helping to construct 150 Women Build houses throughout 2005. This year, Lowe’s also helped sponsor The Jimmy Carter Work Project, during which 234 Habitat homes were dedicated across the state of Michigan.
