Charter helps Habitat’s ‘Cars for Homes’ effort
Charter Communications helps Habitat for Humanity ‘recycle cars into homes’ for families in need of decent housing
AMERICUS, Ga. (Nov 15, 2005) — With 5.1 million U.S. families living in substandard conditions and recent natural disasters adding to the number of people needing shelter, affordable housing is a need in all our communities. By generating awareness through cable television spots, Charter Communications, Inc. Western Division has helped Habitat for Humanity’s “Cars for Homes™” program turn donated vehicles into cash to help meet the need for affordable housing.
Charter Communications, a broadband communications company, announced today that it is expanding the rotation of Habitat’s Cars for Homes public service announcement into markets throughout the western United States, including those in the Los Angeles and Riverside areas, as well as Charter communities in Northern California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. This donation is in addition to the approximately $200,000 worth of advertising and production services Charter Communications donated to Cars for Homes over the last year.
Habitat’s Cars for Homes program accepts donated cars, boats, RVs and other vehicles to generate funds that benefit the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate and community where the donation is made. “Cars for Homes provides an easy way for Habitat’s supporters to help families living in substandard conditions in their local communities. The ongoing support and generous contributions by Charter help generate awareness of Habitat’s mission and of this unique way donors can help”, said Marcia Rundle, director of Habitat for Humanity’s Cars for Homes program.
Craig Watson, vice president for Charter Communications Western Division, and his production team helped develop and produce the Cars for Homes public service announcement that is now being inserted into rotations and viewed by Charter customers. Watson said, “Habitat for Humanity is a powerful presence in almost every community we serve. We see our partnership as a natural extension of our commitment to give back to our local communities”.
