Habitat for Humanity receives charitable grant from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans members vote to distribute portion of $1 million to Habitat for Humanity

ATLANTA (July 26, 2010) – Habitat for Humanity International has been awarded more than $114,000 from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans to continue its mission of eliminating poverty housing.

The charitable grant is part of Thrivent Financial’s inaugural “Thrivent Choice Voting Event,” which allowed its members to vote on how to distribute $1 million among 10 national charitable organizations. More than 16,000 members voted for Habitat for Humanity to receive a portion of the grant.

“Thrivent members clearly support the work of Habitat for Humanity,” said Brad Hewitt, Thrivent Financial president and chief executive officer. “We’re glad that this inaugural Thrivent Choice Voting Event can further strengthen Habitat’s efforts as it moves forward in its mission.”

Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans have been working together for more than a decade to create decent, affordable housing. The work of their recent four-year, $125 million alliance, Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity, was extended in 2010 when Thrivent Financial for Lutherans committed an additional $15 million to Habitat for Humanity. This partnership makes Thrivent Financial one of Habitat’s largest supporters and aims to increase Habitat’s annual house production by hundreds of U. S. homes per year and more around the world.
