Cargill continues its support with $390,000 in funding

Grant supports domestic and international build days with Cargill employee volunteers and Habitat homeowners

ATLANTA, (Sept. 14, 2010) – Habitat for Humanity International announced today that long-time partner Cargill is continuing its support of Habitat’s affordable-housing work around the world with a one-year, $390,000 grant.

“Cargill has been a global partner with Habitat for Humanity International for many years,” said Tomme Beevas, director of community involvement, Cargill. “As part of that commitment, our employees have helped build more than 400 houses with Habitat in 19 countries and on six continents.”

Cargill’s most recent grant brings the company’s support of Habitat since 1996 to nearly $3.75 million. With the continued commitment, Cargill reinforces its efforts to address economic, environmental and social challenges in domestic and international communities where Cargill operates.

In 2009, Cargill supported more than 50 Habitat houses through sponsorship of employee build days in 10 countries, including the United States and Canada.

Mark Crozet, senior vice president of Resource Development for Habitat for Humanity International, emphasized that the effects of Cargill’s support has impacts well beyond housing.

“We know that ownership of simple, decent affordable housing can make a strong impact on the health and educational success of children and the financial success of a family, which in turn, impacts a community,” Crozet said. “With its continued support of Habitat, Cargill is helping make economic, environmental and social change in the communities they touch. We are quite grateful for their support.”
