Yale Locks & Hardware renews pledge for $5 million of locksets to Habitat for Humanity

Five-year commitment is Yale’s third since 2001

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut (July 12, 2011) — Yale Locks & Hardware, an ASSA ABLOY Group company, is pleased to renew its pledge to support Habitat for Humanity in its effort to eliminate poverty housing. The five-year commitment that kicked off in January includes 5 million of donated interior and exterior locks and keys for homes built with Habitat for Humanity homeowner partners and volunteers.

To date, Yale has provided more than 500,000 locks, valued at more than 11 million, to Habitat for Humanity affiliates primarily in the United States and additionally in Mexico and throughout the Asia Pacific region. Yale first partnered with Habitat for Humanity from 2001 to 2005, donating locksets and installation and maintenance advice with a value of 5 million. In its second gifts-in-kind commitment, from 2006 to 2010, Yale exceeded the term’s 5 million pledge by nearly 1 million in product donations.

“We realize the need for affordable and safe housing and understand the impact its availability has on the community,” said ASSA ABLOY Americas division President and chief executive officer Thanasis Molokotos. “Everyone deserves security and we’ll continue doing our part to provide that to families and communities in need of housing.”

Dick Krajewski, general manager for Yale Locks & Hardware added, “We hope each family feels a sense of pride and accomplishment the first time they unlock the door to their new home and a new beginning.”

In addition to donated locksets, employee volunteers from Yale and other ASSA ABLOY Group brands have helped build houses with Habitat homeowner partners in Mason City, Iowa; New Haven, Connecticut; Charlotte, North Carolina; Roanoke, Virginia; and New York City, among others.

“Habitat for Humanity is honored to partner with Yale as we work with families to build safe, decent, affordable homes,” said Larry Gluth, vice president of U.S. and Canada for Habitat for Humanity International. “We are pleased to provide Yale’s donated products to Habitat affiliates throughout the U.S.”
