Next conference: Habitat on the Hill 2016 will take place February 9–11, 2016 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. Registration will open October 2015.
Habitat on the Hill is Habitat’s annual legislative conference, during which Habitat staff members, board members, homeowners, volunteers and youth from across the country gather in Washington, D.C., to discuss Habitat’s federal legislative priorities and hold face-to-face meetings with lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
2015 marked the ninth year of Habitat on the Hill, with more than 200 Habitat representatives representing 37 states in attendance. Attendees met with nearly 300 congressional offices to discuss programs and policies that allow Habitat for Humanity and other entities to serve communities across the country, including federal priorities such as:
- Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program (PDF, 498KB)
- Corporation for National and Community Service (PDF, 199KB)
- USAID’s investment in water, sanitation and hygiene (PDF, 611KB)
Plenary speakers included Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro, Representative Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.), Representative Aaron Schock (R-Ill.), and CBS White House Correspondent Major Garrett, among others. On the final day of the conference, the launch event of the 2015 Shelter Report, Habitat’s annual research report on shelter issues around the globe, featured a panel of experts addressing how residential energy efficiency can transform low-income communities.
