By Jonathan Reckford, Habitat for Humanity International CEO
What a privilege I will have in the coming days to see firsthand Habitat for Humanity’s work in two African countries.
My first stop is in Cape Town where I will visit with Habitat homeowners and spend time with the staff of Habitat South Africa to review their affordable housing strategies. We will be in prayer for the Mandela family as we visit Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years.
I will also meet with area staff members in Pretoria who are adjusting to a recent reorganization. I am so grateful for their commitment to serve God by serving others.
In Kenya, I will visit Habitat projects outside Nairobi and will meet with board and staff members of our country program there.
My son, who will be leaving home and heading to college in just a few short days, will be joining me on the trip. We are very excited about having this time together.
As part of a layover in Amsterdam on my return trip, I’ll have a chance to visit with staff from Habitat Netherlands.
