Celebrating the milestone with an eye toward Habitat’s first million houses worldwide

Back in the fall of 2008, Habitat celebrated its 300,000th house, in Naples, Florida. Less than three years later, Habitat is blessed to mark half-a-million homes built, renovated, repaired or improved worldwide.
Habitat staff and volunteers built the 500,000th house in partnership with the Ngugi family in Maai Mahiu, Kenya. The Ngugis are one of 350 families who fled here in 2007 after post-election tribal violence forced them from their former homes.
For the past three years, Habitat Kenya has partnered with this community to fund and build homes with everyone here — helping move people from tattered tents and mud floors to safe, decent housing.
