The ArcelorMittal Foundation has been a Habitat corporate partner since 2008. From the first year of our partnership, the ArcelorMittal Foundation has collaborated with financial support, technical know-how, product donation and volunteering efforts. It has also been helping Habitat for Humanity in providing safe, decent, affordable homes to 547 families in Argentina, Costa Rica, Macedonia, Mexico, Romania, South Africa, and Ukraine.
The ArcelorMittal Foundation’s prompt response to the earthquake in Haiti has resulted in a contribution towards 2,000 Habitat upgradeable transitional shelters that can be expanded into permanent housing in the future.
Experts from ArcelorMittal and Habitat for Humanity designed Casa Buna (“Good House”), the first low cost steel framed home. A successful prototype was completed at the ArcelorMittal facility in Romania. Since then, its innovative construction and simple design has benefited 20 low income families in Romania.
“Our partnership with Habitat allows us to be responsible as a corporation through program sponsorship and technical innovation. Furthermore, it gives our employees the possibility of participating in a global volunteering programme.” – Felicidad Cristobal, CEO of the ArcelorMittal Foundation.
