Many Ghanaians live in substandard communal housing that may shelter up to 40 members of an extended family.
Single-family Habitat homes are a vast improvement.
A typical Habitat house is made up of two bedrooms and a hall, with an external latrine and washroom. Walls made of sun-dried earthen blocks and plastered with cement are built onto a concrete foundation and cement screed floor. The house is capped with an aluminum roof.
Habitat’s work in Ghana
Active in Ghana since 1987, Habitat Ghana [1] has helped families build nearly 6,000 houses in more than 135 communities. Average house cost: US$3,010*
