Habitat for Humanity International is assisting Habitat for Humanity - New York City with its recruitment for a Construction Estimator. This position will be responsible for preparing cost estimates, bid documents, bid analysis, and assist in project planning and execution of Habitat for Humanity - NYC’s Superstorm Sandy Rebuilding Program. The Estimator will be a key position within the Sandy response program and will be expected to show flexibility and problem solving ability. This position reports directly to the Superstorm Sandy Project Director. This position will be expected to work a 5 day workweek including weekdays and/or both weekend days. This position will be based in the New York City area.
Key Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and implement all tasks required to establish cost estimates for residential housing repairs.
• Develop a bidding methodology to effectively and competitively manage the bidding process for multiple projects.
• Prepare schedules, scopes of work and pricing information for materials and contractor costs.
• Solicit in-kind material and labor donations to reduce overall project costs.
• Generate bid solicitations and provide Request for Information (RFI) follow up to general contractors.
• Participates in seeking out and qualifying new general contractors and subcontractors.
• Assist with preparation and execution of general contract and subcontract administration.
• Oversee all necessary preconstruction work including: site assessments and assist in identifying permitting requirements.
• Prepare construction budgets from site assessments, general contract pricing and direct material purchases.
• The Estimator will be required to resolve issues that may arise in the development process to ensure the on-budget and timely completion of all assigned projects.

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the role of a Construction Estimator.
• Project management experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Understanding of residential mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
• Familiarly with NYC Department of Buildings Codes.
• Must be punctual, able to work independently and self-motivated.
• Capable of managing multiple tasks and be competent in prioritizing project needs.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Project.
• Experience working with affordable residential housing preferred but not required.
• Familiar with Staten Island area preferred but not required.
• Must have valid NY State driver’s license.
