Habitat for Humanity Paraguay will celebrate the country´s bicentennial year by building three houses in one week with low-income families in need of improved housing.
ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay (February 8, 2011) – In May of this year, Paraguay will celebrate 200 years of independence. Habitat for Humanity Paraguay will join the celebration buy building homes with families in need. The event will take place from May 8-16.
The nation-wide Bicentennial celebration , which Habitat for Humanity Paraguay is supporting through its Habitat Bicentennial event, aims to unite at least 200 people under one idea: creating a better future for Paraguay, just as their ancestors did 200 years ago. Habitat will contribute to this goal by mobilizing national and international volunteers to work side by side with low-income families to improve their housing conditions.
“As Paraguayans, we are very excited about this event, as it reminds us of the bravery of our heroes who broke the chains of oppression,” says Mary Lechenuk, National Director of Habitat for Humanity Paraguay . “On behalf of these heroes, and of Habitat for Humanity Paraguay, we would like to extend an invitation to join us in celebrating this great day in the history of Paraguay.”
The organization invites national and international volunteers to help build three houses in six days, alongside the families who will be living in them. For those interested in participating, there are three ways to get involved:
- If you are a resident of Paraguay and would like to participate as a volunteer, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org .
- If you live outside of Paraguay, check out the possibility of joining an existing Global Village team.
- Donate to the construction of houses in Paraguay.
“It will be a pleasure to celebrate this important event with friends and supporters of Habitat for Humanity Paraguay,” says Lechenuk. “We hope that those who are interested in bringing hope to more Paraguayan families will be able to feel the warmth of our people and the joy of being part of this great moment for all Paraguayans.”
