Realtors® to raise walls on Habitat for Humanity house
ORLANDO, Fla., March 17, 2004 — Habitat for Humanity Orlando will team up with the National Association of Realtors®, the Florida Association of Realtors®, the Orlando Regional Realtors® Association and Habitat for Humanity International on Friday, March 19, to raise the walls of house at 4048 W. Jefferson St.
The wall raising kicks off the construction of a three-bedroom single-family home sponsored by NAR. Throughout the summer, Realtors® from Florida will donate time to help build the house, then at a dedication ceremony on Nov. 3, will present the keys to the Logan family. The ceremony precedes NAR’s annual convention in Orlando, Nov. 5-8, 2004.
As part of its commitment to work with Habitat to provide families with affordable housing, NAR has pledged to build a Habitat for Humanity house each year in the host city of its annual conference. The convention draws more than 22,000 Realtors® from around the United States, and $10 of each attendee’s registration fee goes to help sponsor the home.
In addition, NAR contributes to a Habitat for Humanity build abroad each year. For 2004, the group selected Australia as the build country.
“Thanks to Habitat for Humanity and Realtor®s around the nation, NAR is helping make the dream of homeownership come true for many families in the United States and abroad,” said NAR President Walt McDonald, owner of Walt McDonald Real Estate, Riverside, Calif. “Ceremonies such as the wall-raising event are symbolic and illustrate the great impact both organizations make in people’s lives.”
NAR is a national underwriter of Habitat for Humanity International’s Congress Building America program, a partnership between HFHI, the U.S. Congress and corporate and nonprofit sponsors.
The program brings legislators, government officials and private enterprises together with Habitat partner families and volunteers to build simple, decent homes.
“Our partnership with NAR has inspired so many people to help Habitat for Humanity raise awareness of this nation’s housing crisis,” said Tom Jones, vice president, Habitat for Humanity International. “It has broadened our reach into communities and enables Habitat for Humanity to build more houses and help more families achieve the American Dream of homeownership.”
