Partnership will help build more homes around the world
FORT WAYNE, Ind., May 13, 2004 – Do it Best Corp., at its 2004 Do it Best May Market Kickoff Breakfast, designated Habitat for Humanity as its cause of choice.
“Do it Best Corp. and our members recognize the important role we play in our local communities. We were looking for the organization that most matched our corporate philosophy and had attributes complementary to our brand,” said Bob Taylor, Do it Best Corp. president and CEO. “Habitat for Humanity is a well-known and well-respected organization, and this partnership is well-aligned with our member-retailers’ businesses as home improvement product retailers. By encouraging our member-retailers all around the world to support their local Habitat affiliates, we will be supporting a cause that has a direct impact on families living in the communities our members serve.”
“Both Do it Best Corp. and Habitat for Humanity are in the business of building homes and improving lives. I couldn’t be more proud of partnering our organization with another of such high caliber,” said Millard Fuller, Habitat for Humanity founder and president. “We’ve already had the privilege of working individually with hundreds of Do it Best Corp. member-retailers. By having the opportunity to work with thousands of member-retailers all around the world, I know we can do even more.”
The co-op spent more than a year evaluating potential causes before selecting Habitat for Humanity as its cause of choice. “The more we got to know the people at Habitat, the more we saw that our two organizations could build on shared values and culture. The similarity between our corporate mission, brand values, global presence, and commitment to the betterment of the communities we serve were key factors in making this decision,” said Taylor.
Do it Best Corp. and hundreds of its member-retailers already support Habitat for Humanity efforts in their local communities. As a part of the partnership, Do it Best Corp. will encourage all of its member-retailers to get involved with their local Habitat for Humanity affiliate in ways that are appropriate for them, their stores and their communities. Like all retail programs the co-op makes available, this is a voluntary program for its members and will be implemented in a variety of ways to suit the particular member retailer’s operations.
“We believe that developing a formal relationship with the right community support agency can have tremendous benefits for everyone involved. It’s a win for Habitat for Humanity and their partner families, a win for our members, a win for their customers and a win for communities,” Taylor said. “We’re looking forward to developing a long-term partnership with Habitat for Humanity, that will contribute to the elimination of sub-standard housing all around the world.”
