Habitat completes successful week of building more than 400 simple, decent homes with professional homebuilders
AMERICUS, Ga. (June 9, 2006) – Professional homebuilders are putting down their hammers and power saws on Friday to celebrate the successful end of Habitat for Humanity’s Home Builders Blitz week. New Habitat for Humanity partner families will be presented with house keys and Bibles at dedication ceremonies in 130 locations.
Across the country 1,000 professional homebuilders helped to build homes that will house more than 1,000 people. Habitat for Humanity International estimates that more than 400 homes will be dedicated by Saturday.
“Lives have been changed, both for the builders and the new homeowners,” said Kevin Campbell, director of the national Home Builders Blitz program for Habitat for Humanity. “Builders and sponsors have really helped to make a difference in communities, and we are grateful for their efforts this week.”
Wake County Habitat for Humanity in Raleigh, N.C., is hosting the closing ceremony for the national Home Builders Blitz on Saturday. More than 400 Habitat supporters, builders, sponsors and new homeowners will gather to dedicate 20 homes in one neighborhood.
The Home Builders Blitz 2006 is the largest Habitat project of its kind in the United States. The model of building for the week pairs professional builders with Habitat affiliates to construct the homes. Habitat affiliates provide the land, while professional builders work with their subcontractors to complete homes and deliver them to new Habitat homeowner families.
