Tropicana launched Coastal Groves lemonade line featuring Habitat for Humanity mission on carton
CHICAGO (April 15, 2008) Tropicana and Habitat for Humanity International have teamed up to celebrate their three-year partnership and the launch of Tropicana Coastal Groves Lemonade that is raising awareness of Habitat’s Gulf Coast work on its package.
Tropicana and Habitat for Humanity celebrated their partnership and their first completed home build on Monday, April 14, 2008, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Derrick Brooks, recipient of the 2000 Walter Payton/NFL “Man of the Year Award,” was on hand to plant a lemon tree at the home.
After announcing the three-year, eight-house partnership with Habitat for Humanity International this past January, dedicated Tropicana employee volunteers rolled up their sleeves to build a home in partnership with a Palmetto, Fla., family. Construction started in early February and was completed the week of April 7, in time to recognize all volunteers during Florida’s April Volunteer Month.
"More than 200 members of the Tropicana family answered the call to volunteer their time and talents to support Habitat for Humanity International’s mission by helping to build a home in our community alongside a wonderful local family,” said Mike Haycock, vice president of Chilled Supply Chain for Tropicana. “After 10 weeks of building, painting and landscaping, the house is complete, making this event a celebration of the collective efforts.”
"April has been recognized as ‘Volunteer Month’ for the state of Florida and it's truly remarkable to see the participation and dedication from the family recipients and Tropicana employee volunteers as they continue building hope for not only this family, but for residents throughout the Palmetto community as well," said Mike Kennedy, president of Habitat for Humanity's Manatee County affiliate.
Another refreshing twist to the Tropicana and Habitat for Humanity partnership is the launch of Tropicana Coastal Groves, a line of lemonades that feature on-package information about Habitat for Humanity’s mission and Tropicana’s commitment to support their efforts to help rebuild the U.S. coastal regions.
In attendance at the celebratory Coastal Groves Lemonade launch and contributing to the final touch of the home build was Tampa Bay Buccaneer Derrick Brooks. Brooks assisted in "putting down roots" for the family by planting a lemon tree in their front yard.
“It is an honor for me to have the opportunity to help support Tropicana and Habitat for Humanity in this tremendous effort to make a difference in our community,” said Derrick Brooks. “I am happy to join Tropicana and Habitat for Humanity in welcoming the family into their new home and celebrate the on-going partnership.”
The new family home is located in the Village of the Palms community, an area that has an emotional connection for both organizations. In addition to the Coastal Groves home, Tropicana employees of the employee resource group EnAble contributed to the construction of a neighboring home built through Habitat for Humanity. EnAble assisted by making the newly-built home handicap-accessible. EnAble's mission is to be fully inclusive and to promote the quality of life for those with different abilities.
