New commitment of over $20 million in paint and cash donations to support Habitat’s mission
MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 22, 2009 – Habitat for Humanity International announced today The Valspar Corporation Foundation has extended its long-standing relationship with Habitat with a multi-year commitment totaling more than $20 million in cash and paint donations. The Valspar Foundation will provide paint to Habitat affiliates across the United States and financial support to build Habitat’s A Brush With Kindness program—an effort that assists families in need—into a nationwide program.
“Even in these difficult economic times, Valspar and its employees are deeply committed in their support of Habitat and its mission of providing simple, decent, affordable housing with families facing difficult circumstances,” said William L. Mansfield, Valspar chairman and chief executive officer. “We take great pride that our products and application expertise have helped improve the quality of life for people in communities across the country. We are honored to be Habitat’s National Paint Partner and look forward to continuing our work together.”
The Valspar Foundation and Habitat for Humanity International launched their national partnership in 2002. With this extended commitment, The Valspar Foundation’s paint and cash partnership with Habitat for Humanity International will reach nearly $40 million by 2012. Valspar’s support for Habitat began in 1979, when it first provided paint and services to Habitat for Humanity Twin Cities. In addition, Valspar and the Twin Cities Habitat affiliate founded A Brush With Kindness, a revitalization program that helps transform neighborhoods by painting home exteriors and providing landscaping and minor home repairs for low-income, disabled or senior homeowners. More than 25 Habitat affiliates have initiated A Brush With Kindness in their communities, and Habitat for Humanity is now launching the program nationally in the United States.
“We are deeply grateful for Valspar’s level of commitment to Habitat for Humanity and the families we work with,” said Jonathan Reckford, chief executive officer for Habitat for Humanity International. “Valspar has helped us provide simple, decent housing across the country, and through this new partnership they will help reach even more families in need of home repairs. Support from partners like Valspar is critical to our success and achieving our goal of eliminating substandard housing.”
