NEW YORK (September 19, 2012) – Barnes & Noble College, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Barnes & Noble Inc. (NYSE: BKS), is pleased to provide students heading back to campus for the new school year with an opportunity to support Habitat for Humanity through a new partnership. Barnes & Noble College will donate $100,000 in support of its “Build a Future” partnership with Habitat for Humanity this academic year. The program is part of BUiLD, Habitat’s movement to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
“As we focus on ways to save students money and to create tools to make their studying more efficient, we also share students’ desire to support causes and organizations that promote the greater good,” said Max J. Roberts, president and CEO, Barnes & Noble College. “We’re excited to stand beside our students and build a better future with our communities through our partnership with Habitat for Humanity.”
Barnes & Noble College will also donate up to an additional $25,000 for a unique social-sharing campaign that enables students to share their support of Barnes & Noble College’s philanthropic campaign on their campus bookstores’ Facebook pages.
“Habitat for Humanity is thrilled to partner with Barnes & Noble College in the BUiLD campaign, encouraging higher-education students to support affordable housing work nationwide,” said Lysa Ratliff, senior director of Corporate and Cause Partnerships for Habitat for Humanity International. “Young people are key drivers of the BUiLD movement, because they mobilize their peers to join the fight to end poverty housing through ways beyond traditional volunteerism — such as spreading the word on social media.”
