The partnership brings together the financial, volunteer and advocacy resources of Thrivent Financial with the affordable-housing construction leadership of Habitat for Humanity and its local affiliates around the world.
During the past seven years, this integrated effort has resulted in the construction of nearly 1,600 homes in the United States. The partnership also engaged approximately 480,000 volunteers who contributed nearly 3 million volunteer hours toward fulfilling Habitat’s mission.
Two programs are under the umbrella of the multi-year, multi-million dollar partnership:
- Thrivent Builds Homes: Thrivent Financial sponsors the construction of hundreds of Habitat homes annually and engages thousands of volunteers in Habitat home-building projects. Fifty five percent of the funding for each Thrivent Builds home will come from Thrivent Financial. Forty five percent of the remaining funding will come from the continuing fundraising efforts of local Thrivent chapters and Habitat for Humanity affiliates.
- Thrivent Builds Worldwide: Thrivent Financial provides the opportunity for short-term worldwide trips for members, Lutheran congregations and other volunteers, providing a rich cultural experience while building homes abroad. The Thrivent Builds Worldwide [3] program has also established holistic communities, one in El Salvador, and one in the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity is the largest effort in the ongoing relationship between Thrivent Financial and Habitat. The partners have been working side-by-side with volunteers and homeowners for more than two decades, creating decent, affordable housing with low-income families.
