Frequently asked questions — U.S. Volunteer Program
What is the typical volunteer assignment like?
One of the more popular opportunities is working alongside our skilled construction staff in renovating and maintaining Habitat-owned buildings. Other opportunities require specific knowledge or skills related to the assignment. Volunteer service time periods range from two to six months.
What can you tell me about volunteering at Habitat for Humanity?
As a volunteer, you will be an integral part of our operations. You’ll be expected to work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Administrative-based volunteers should adhere to our business casual dress code. Operation or reconstruction volunteers need to wear closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing.
A willingness to participate in community activities is just as important as the skills and abilities you bring to your assignment. On Wednesday mornings from 10–11 a.m., staff and volunteers are invited to attend an optional group devotional service.
Where is Americus?
Americus is a community of 17,000 people, located in southwest Georgia approximately three hours south of Atlanta.
Do I have to pay to volunteer at Habitat for Humanity?
We encourage volunteers to raise awareness and their own financial support for their term of service with us.
Who can apply for these opportunities?
Anyone who is 18 or older can apply.
