Girls Build -- Habitat for Humanity Int'l 1

Girls Build

Girls Build program kits available!

The mission of the Girls Build program is to work in partnership with youth organizations to educate preteen girls about homeownership, Habitat for Humanity, community needs and the ways in which girls and women can actively meet those needs.

Girls Build helps pre-teen girls build confidence to make successful decisions about their futures, provides a fun learning environment, and offers a complete, ready-to-use curriculum.

The award-winning Girls Build program targets girls between the ages of 10 and 12 – a threshold age during which children move beyond simple acceptance of their surroundings and begin to develop an awareness of the circumstances that impact their lives.

Girls Build program kits are available for Habitat affiliates and community organizations to purchase. Through these program kits, girls are able to learn about:

    • The reality of poverty housing

    • -The importance of getting involved in their local community

    • The benefits of homeownership and safe neighborhoods

    • How Habitat works to build homes with partner families

Today’s girls face pressures from peers and society that are different from those of just a generation ago. Making the right decisions in the face of these pressures can be difficult for any girl. For girls growing up in lower socio-economic conditions, the pressures — and the risks — are much greater.

What’s included in the Girls Build kits?

Five teaching modules:

“Giving Back”

Additional accessories included:

Curriculum guide

Resources and tips for presenting the material
Reproducible worksheets
Girls Build pencils, pads and temporary tattoos
Set of 10 activity books

How can we use these kits?

The Girls Build program provides a perfect gateway for Habitat affiliates and community organizations to establish new partnerships. The program has been specifically designed to be used in groups – perfect for Habitat affiliates, Girl Scout troops; Boys & Girls Clubs; Girls, Inc.; church groups or other organizations.

This is also a great way to involve girls who want to get involved in Habitat’s ministry in some way but are not yet old enough to work on a build site.
