Act! Speak! Build! Week Campaign Events

What are the Act! Speak! Build! Week campaign events?
Campaign events are events selected by HFHI staff to be highlighted during Act! Speak! Build! Week. Student groups around the world are encouraged to implement the campaign events to give the week a more unified perspective.

2009 campaign events

Advocate on behalf of Habitat for Humanity

Host a large-scale advocacy campaign on your school campus or in your community.

Host a candlelight vigil

A candlelight vigil is a great way for groups to reflect on poverty and the impact it has on our lives, the community and the world. Candlelight vigils can be planned in coordination with other Act! Speak! Build! Week activities.

Make it real!

Create a visual representation of a current poverty statistic. The visual representation will illustrate the magnitude of poverty in your community, state, country or world. The visual representation should be displayed in a high-traffic area and accompanied by an explanation.

“Welcome home” housing simulation

Utilize this Habitat for Humanity Youth Programs resource during Act! Speak! Build! Week to raise awareness of the issues surrounding poverty housing. Each participant is assigned a role as a homeless individual searching for housing or a representative of a housing entity.
