Global Village trips

Make a global difference

Habitat for Humanity International’s Global Village trips give participants a unique opportunity to become active partners with people of another culture. Team members work alongside members of the host community, raising awareness of poverty housing and building decent, affordable housing worldwide. As partners, team members help build a true “global village” of love, homes, communities and hope!

Build bridges, build hope, have fun

Working abroad with Habitat for Humanity is often a life-changing experience. GV participants learn about poverty housing and Habitat’s mission to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness worldwide. GV team members give of themselves as they work alongside homeowners and local volunteers of all backgrounds, races and religions. Participants learn about the host community’s culture, language and social practices and develop new skills and confidence. In addition to an unbelievable experience building homes, most teams also take some time to explore the local community and participate in cultural activities.

Youth teams

Global Village trips can be a life-changing experience for young people. High schools, colleges, church groups and other established organizations can plan a Global Village trip with participants 16 years of age and older. Each group must have a trained team leader, who is at least 24-years-old, responsible for organizing the trip and leading the team in-country. (Potential leaders should learn more about becoming a Global Village team leader.)

Individual youth participation

Individuals younger than 16 must be accompanied by a parent on any Global Village trip, but are not permitted on an active build site. Those 16 and older may participate in U.S. trips with parental consent, or in international trips with a guardian present or as part of an established group. Acceptance of a minor is up to individual team leaders’ discretions. Host programs have limitations on the work minors can participate in.

Individuals 18 and older may participate in any Global Village trip.
