Asia and the Pacific

Asia and the Pacific have great need. Many of the people live in slums. They do not have clean water, proper sanitation, safety, or space in their homes. Two-thirds of the world’s people who live in slums come from this region. Many of the people are looking for a better life. Therefore, they move to the cities. The cities cannot house every person, and people become very poor. The lack of shelter increases the need for housing. Habitat for Humanity operates in 29 Asian and Pacific countries. They began their work in India in 1983. Since then, they have provided 230,000 people with homes by building over 45,700 structures. Every person has the right to live with dignity. Through building, volunteering and fund raising, Habitat for Humanity makes this a reality for the people of Asia and the Pacific.
