Act! Speak! Build! Week

Act! Speak! Build! Week

April 1-7, 2012

Kids speaking out against poverty

  • Act! Speak! Build! Week is a student-initiated week of advocacy on behalf of Habitat for Humanity and housing issues.
  • It empowers young people to educate themselves and their communities and move people to social action.
  • Young people, ages 5 to 25, work in partnership with local Habitat affiliates to plan and host events focused on ending poverty housing.

Another day dedicated to advocating!

World Habitat Day

  • World Habitat Day occurs the first Monday in October each year.
  • In 2011, World Habitat Day will be held on Oct. 3.
  • We encourage groups to start planning now for World Habitat Day, as we raise our voices and declare that the lack of decent, affordable housing is unacceptable.

Kids ages 9-13 can get involved in Act! Speak! Build Week

  • Create a visual representation of a poverty statistic.
  • Host a candlelight vigil.
  • Participate in a Welcome Home housing simulation.
  • Write letters to your governor, house representative, senators and local newspaper editors.
  • See our suggested activities in the resources section below to learn more.
