Roles and responsibilities

The GVYP model includes both a project leader and a group leader. Habitat for Humanity International will provide your group with a trained project leader to plan the Global Village trip and lead your group through the experience. Your group must provide an adult group leader who is at least 21 years old to assist the project leader in advance of the trip and to travel with the group on the trip.

Responsibilities of project leader

  • In charge of the overall trip; the person accountable to HFHI
  • Works with the group leader to understand the group and customize the experience to the group’s needs
  • Works with the host GV coordinator and HFHI GV coordinator to budget, plan the itinerary, travel, logistics, etc.
  • Distributes all trip details and information to the group leader
  • Receives trip funds in advance of departure and demonstrates good stewardship of team funds, tracking all expenses as required by HFHI
  • Leads the group through the experience, maximizing the Global Village experience for the youth participants
  • Leads short-term mission work

Responsibilities of group leader

  • Adult participant of the group (at least 21 years old); functions in administrative role for the group
  • Disseminates information from the project leader to the team members prior to the trip
  • In charge of the group’s online registration
  • Collects all forms for the group and submits them together to HFHI
  • Collects and submits all funds for the trip not sent directly to HFHI as defined in the Memorandum of Understanding
  • Books and pays for the team’s airfare in consultation with the project leader
  • Responsible for managing team members on the trip
  • Handles any discipline and/or behavioral problems on the trip
  • Makes any medical decisions for team members

Responsibilities of team member

  • Prepares for the trip by reading orientation materials
  • Obtains passport and immunizations recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and a health professional
  • Participates in any group fund raising as determined by the group leader
  • Turns in forms and funds as requested by the group leader
  • Is flexible and open-minded in working in partnership with families in need
