Teacher Fellows: Application information

Thanks for your interest in Habitat for Humanity’s Teacher Fellows. Habitat for Humanity International will select 13 applicants to go on a one-week domestic build, where they will have an opportunity to learn about poverty housing issues and HFHI's educational resources.


Participants will be expected to participate in online discussions before the trip, plan their own volunteer project after the trip and complete follow-up evaluations. Please read our frequently asked questions before filling out your application.

Application components

  • The first section is for personal information (e.g., phone number, e-mail, address, etc.) so we can contact you.
  • The second section is for information about your current teaching position (e.g., school, subjects and grade-level, etc.).
  • The third section helps us get to know you through seven short-essay questions.
  • The fourth section requires you to submit a letter verifying your employment. Instructions are included.

Essay questions
Please note, applicants must fill out an online application. Questions on the online application are listed below for your convenience.

  • Have you had any previous involvement with Habitat for Humanity? If so, please describe.
  • What knowledge do you hope to gain from this trip?
  • How have you already involved—or how are you currently involving—your students and colleagues in Habitat for Humanity? How could you involve your students and colleagues in the future?
  • How do you currently address the terms of poverty, affordable housing or civic engagement with your students?

Letter verifying employment
Please make sure the letter includes the grades and subjects you are currently teaching and how long you have been employed at your school.

Letters should be printed on official letterhead with the principal’s contact information included. Please keep your letter less than one page in length and have it signed, sealed and postmarked by January 11, 2010.
