The Young Leaders Conference is an annual event that brings together Habitat’s younger generations of volunteers. Over the past 27 years, young people have been an instrumental part in building the namesake of Habitat for Humanity. Yes, our mission is to serve partner families, but each time a campus chapter member steps onto a campus quad with a shantytown or a Habitat young professional group plays host to a fundraising event, we also raise awareness about the need for a service-driven life. Our goal is to challenge, inspire and connect participants as change agents advancing Habitat’s vision.
The conference is one way we offer our current volunteers a deeper understanding of their generation’s ability to be the cornerstone of continuing Habitat’s mission. In 2015, we want to challenge attendees to “Go Beyond” - go beyond previous goals; go beyond fears; go beyond how things have always been done.
We want participants to leave with a deeper understanding of housing as a critical foundation for breaking the cycle of poverty. This conference will mobilize participants with the tools to further engage their peers to continue service.
Our objectives include:
- Empower participants to be Habitat leaders who commission their peers with continuing to be the mouthpiece for affordable housing for generations to come.
- Promote appropriate youth engagement opportunities that will build a community of young service leaders that will end poverty housing.
- Promote innovation and engagement that is relevant for youth audiences.
- Create an experience that intentionally prepares our volunteers to mobilize their peers to lead a life of service.
