Home

Muskegon County HFH is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.

Hammers

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

We've started our 66th house on the Ducey Street site. We broke ground in July and are moving along!

The latest home dedication for the new homeowners, the Scarbroughs, took place on August 14th, 2004. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make their dream of affordable, decent housing come true!

Our volunteers have already donated thousands of hours helping to provide decent, affordable housing in Muskegon County. Together we have completed over 60 houses in the area. We are striving to reach our goal of 100 houses by 2005.

We are building five more homes as part of the Jimmy Carter Work Project for 2005. The groundbreaking ceremony will take place June 25th, 2005. Check back for more details.

Guidelines
Who can apply?
Habitat is for people who need a better place to live -- and who are willing and able to take on the responsibility of home ownership.Habitat is a 'hand-up," not a 'hand-out.' The demand for Habitat homes is extensive, and consequently, applicants must demonstrate the ability and commitment to repay the interest-free mortgage. In addition, all Habitat homebuyers are required to invest a minimum of 400 hours of sweat equity building Habitat homes and related Habitat tasks, plus attend home ownership classes.

Help us eliminate substandard housing in our community! It's quick, easy and safe to support the house-building, hope-building work of Muskegon County HFH through Habitat for Humanity International's secure online donation system. You can even send a gift card announcing your donation in honor of a loved one or a special occasion.

The Habitat for Humanity International web site contains more information on Habitat's history, mission, volunteer opportunities and contact information for other Habitat affiliates around the world.
