Two years after hurricanes Irma and Maria struck, Habitat is making progress in communities throughout Puerto Rico and advocating for changes that will build resilience and reduce delays in recovery when disaster strikes again.
Habitat for Humanity of Collin County’s Cotton Groves, a new sustainable and eco-conscious community, will be one of the first affordable housing communities built with shipping containers in the U.S.
Today, in recognition of housing’s critical role in climate mitigation and adaptation, Habitat for Humanity has made specific programmatic commitments toward accelerating low-income families’ access to low-carbon, resilient housing solutions.
Owens Corning and the Owens Corning Foundation will donate more than $1.2 million in gifts-in-kind and cash, as well as thousands of volunteer hours, to Habitat for Humanity during the 2018-2020 time period.
The foundation will provide funding for Habitat’s long-term disaster recovery work, as well as support several local Habitat organizations’ efforts to help families affected by the housing crisis that has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
