Typhoon Ketsana left thousands homeless when it struck Vietnam and Cambodia in October 2009.

Habitat’s response in Vietnam
More than 600,000 houses were destroyed, damaged or flooded by Typhoon Ketsana’s foray into eight coastal and central highland provinces of Vietnam. Habitat for Humanity Vietnam will repair homes and replace roofs for 1,000 families affected by the typhoon.

Moving forward, Habitat hopes to provide permanent houses in phases for affected families along the central coastline and to provide disaster preparedness and mitigation programs.

Habitat’s response in Cambodia
Habitat Cambodia has made an initial assessment of one of the four areas―Rattanakira province―affected by strong winds and flooding cause by Typhoon Ketsana. The other provinces are Prey Vihear, Siem Reap and Kompong Thom. Habitat for Humanity will offer technical assistance and construction help to families who are rebuilding their houses after the typhoon.
