Throughout our 40-year history, corporations have partnered with us to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter in partnership with families in the U.S. and around the world.
Gifts and in-kind donations of all sorts have helped us further our work, and brought opportunity and resources to those in need. Contributions large and small continue to make a difference, and we believe there is something every company can give.
What are in-kind donations?
When organizations donate goods or services, those donations are considered gifts-in-kind. Habitat accepts large quantities of building materials, furniture, appliances and more.
One of our most valued gifts-in-kind are the materials used to build houses. Habitat for Humanity regularly ranks as one of the top 20 homebuilders in the United States and is the largest privately held homebuilder. For example, in each one of the homes we build in the U.S., we require approximately 150 pounds of nails and 400 two-by-fours. With the average Habitat house consisting of 1,200 square feet and three bedrooms, these numbers add up fast—so donations of building materials from corporate manufacturers are welcome!
Additionally, in some cases, retailers with overstock donate goods. Donations like these are usually sold in our ReStore home improvement stores, with the proceeds benefiting Habitat.
We have become experts in creativity and working with corporations who want to donate building materials for house construction or overstock items for resale, so don’t hesitate to contact us about your potential donation.
How to coordinate gifts-in-kind
Donate house construction materials
Corporate partnerships help make the work of Habitat possible. Habitat offers corporations wishing to donate construction materials partnership opportunities. Contact our Corporate Relations department at CorporatePartnerships@habitat.org.
Donate overstock materials
Whether your company has a few truckloads of building materials, or warehouses full of them across the country, our Nationwide Procurement and Logistics team works to make donating as easy as possible. We can arrange one-time donations, or establish long-term partnerships with recurring donations in different locations. As far as restock, we’ve handled nationwide restaurant chain remodels, going out of business events and everything in between. We’re happy to take these unwanted items off your hands.
