Indonesia earthquakes
A powerful 7.6 earthquake struck near the city of Padang, Indonesia, in early evening hours of September 30th. This followed a 7.0 earthquake in West Java on September 2. Habitat has already begun helping thousands of families with home repairs and will begin building new homes soon.

Pacific tsunami
A powerful 8.3-magnitude earthquake caused tsunami waves that struck several South Pacific island nations on September 30, 2009. The tsunami took more than 190 lives and many of the villages and resorts on the southern coast of Upolu island were wiped out. Habitat New Zealand is sending a group of volunteers to begin construction of 1,000 houses in the coming months.
